PERCEPTION IS REALITY" b y: Karen Storey
Teacher, business strategist, and sales coach
In life there is no reality, only perception. How do you want to be perceived? Everything you do will be based upon your "outcome-based, bottom-line" performance. The way in which you are perceived is what sets the stage for your outcome. What this means is, "we teach others how to treat us".
Have you ever talked with a stranger on the phone, had a certain perception of them. their abilities, and then met them face-to-face? Did your initial impression (sight unseen) match your impression when you met them?
What changed? Does this mean you are a poor judge of character? NO! It simply means that we as humans base our assumptions on perception, not reality. Because this is true, others do the same thing about us,.making assumptions about our traits, characteristics, values, and our abilities. This may not seem fair, but it is what it is...
To change the way others perceive and how they treat us we must first answer these questions: What do I want my outcome to be? How do I want others to treat me?
Below is a "step-by-step" process that will guide you in your pursuit of a fulfilled, better quality of life and relationships. As you walk through this process, if you need someone to "walk with you", to encourage and support you in your walk, contact Karen.
FIRST: Take full inventory of your value structure. KNOW THIS>>>> What is inside is going to come out and be displayed when you are having your worst day. Therefore, it is CRITICAL to know what and who you are from the inside. Purchase some 3x5 cards and write down one word that describes your core value structure, trait, or characteristic on each card. Then go back and write down an example that provides proof of this word that identifies the value, trait, or characteristic.
SECOND: Take another set of 3x5 cards and write down one word on each card to identify how you want to be perceived. Give an example of someone that has this characteristic. How did they act to make you think of them in this manner? This simple act of identifying a person and their behavior with your word and perception of them will give you insight into how others perceive you based upon your behaviors.
THIRD: Identify ONLY ONE belief, trait or characteristic you would like to showcase or feature. Once you identify this belief, trait or characteristic create a daily action plan that allows you to demonstrate this trait or characteristic each day for the next 90 consecutive days.
FOURTH: Keep a daily log or journal in which you provide at least one example each day of what you did to showcase this identified value, trait or characteristic to another person or persons. NOTE: If no one sees you showcase this trait, value, or characteristic then you cannot count it as being done!
FIFTH: At the end of 90 days read through your daily journal and write a summary of what you have accomplished. Create a unique selling position (3-7 words maximum) of what value or benefit your achieved value, trait or characteristic provides to others.
SIXTH: Use this "USP" (unique selling position) to identify the next value, trait. or characteristic you want to master. Be sure to choose a value, trait, or characteristic that allows you to use what you have just mastered.
SEVENTH: Repeat the above process for the next value, trait. or characteristic you want to showcase or feature. Continue this process through-out your life and you will find the quality life you want and deserve!!
Following the above strategy will enable you to master and lead the life-style you want. If you need someone to help facilitate and coach you in your pursuit of the quality of life you deserve, complete the form below and Karen will contact you.
